•- 4-6 medium tomato slices (about 1/4-inch thick)
•- 4-6 iceberg lettuce leaves
•- 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
•- 4-6 white onion slices (about 1/4-inch thick)
•- 8-12 dill pickle chips
•- 2 tablespoons ketchup
•- 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
•- 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
•- 1/2 teaspoon paprika
•- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
•- 1 tablespoon butter (for toasting buns)
Instructions
1Divide the ground beef into 2 equal portions (8 oz each). Shape each portion into a patty about 4.5 inches wide and 1/2-inch thick, making them slightly larger than your buns since they'll shrink during cooking. Press a small dimple into the center of each patty using your thumb to prevent bulging while cooking.
2Combine salt, black pepper, paprika, and garlic powder in a small bowl. Season both sides of each patty generously with this mixture just before cooking to avoid drawing out moisture prematurely.
3Preheat your grill to high heat (450-500°F) for charcoal or gas grilling. Alternatively, heat a cast iron skillet over high heat until smoking hot, about 3-4 minutes.
4Place patties on the grill grates or in the hot skillet. Cook without moving or pressing for 3-4 minutes until dark char marks develop and the bottom releases easily. Flip once and cook the second side for another 3-4 minutes for medium doneness with a slightly pink center.
5While patties cook, split the hamburger buns and spread butter lightly on the cut sides. Toast the buns cut-side down on the grill or in a separate skillet until golden brown with visible grill marks, about 1-2 minutes.
6Spread mayonnaise evenly on the bottom half of each toasted bun. Place the cooked patty directly on the mayo-coated bun bottom.
7Layer 2-3 tomato slices on top of each patty, followed by 2-3 lettuce leaves. Add 2-3 onion slices and 4-6 pickle chips on top of the lettuce.
8Spread ketchup on the inside of each top bun half. Place the top bun over the assembled ingredients, pressing down gently to compress the layers slightly.
9Serve immediately while the patty is hot and the bun is warm for authentic restaurant-quality results.
