Ingredients
•- 1 whole English muffin
•- 1 pork sausage patty (approximately 1.5 oz)
•- 1 large egg
•- 1 slice American cheese
•- 1 tablespoon salted butter, divided
•- Pinch of fine salt
•- Pinch of freshly ground black pepper
•- Cooking spray or neutral oil as needed
•- 1 tablespoon water for steaming
Instructions
1Heat a medium skillet over medium heat. Place the pork sausage patty in the pan and cook until deeply browned and cooked through, about 2-3 minutes per side. Remove to a plate and keep the rendered fat in the pan.
2Spray a 3-inch ring mold or biscuit cutter with cooking spray. Place it in the same skillet with the sausage drippings. Crack the egg directly into the ring mold, breaking the yolk gently with a fork or spatula tip. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.
3Add 1 tablespoon of water to the pan around the ring mold (not directly on the egg). Cover immediately with a lid and allow the egg to steam until the white is set but the yolk remains slightly soft, about 2-3 minutes. Remove the ring mold carefully and transfer the egg to a clean plate.
4Split the English muffin in half and spread approximately 1/2 tablespoon of butter on each cut side. Toast the muffin halves buttered-side down in a clean skillet or on a griddle over medium heat until lightly golden and crisp, about 1-2 minutes.
5Build the sandwich starting with the bottom muffin half. Layer the hot sausage patty first, then place the American cheese slice on top so it begins melting from the residual heat. Add the cooked egg, then crown with the top muffin half.
6Serve immediately while everything is still warm for optimal cheese melt and authentic McDonald's experience.
